What Now? Life Between Races

You’ve crossed the finish line. You’ve high-fived strangers, devoured post-race snacks, and collapsed into the world’s most satisfying nap. But now what?

The time between races can feel… weird. Aimless. Like running suddenly doesn’t have a purpose. But guess what? This in-between season is golden. It’s your chance to reset, recharge, and rediscover the joy in movement.

Here are a few ideas to help you navigate that post-race limbo:

·  Find the fun again.
If your last training cycle left you burnt out, it’s okay to shake it up. Ditch the plan. Run when you feel like it. Run fast, run slow, or run not at all. Try a new route. Make it weird. Make it yours.

·  Take a real break.
No runs. No watches. No goals. Just being present—with friends, family, your couch, whatever. Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is pause.

·  Explore something new.
Maybe this is the moment to try swimming, strength training, cycling… or finally take that pottery class you keep talking about (Yes, creative cross-training counts).

·  Dream bigger.
What about a triathlon? A relay? An ultramarathon?! Or maybe it’s time to chase that next PR. Let your curiosity lead the way.

·  Or just sign up for another race.
The classic comeback move. Nothing wrong with setting a new goal and jumping back into training—with lessons learned and fresh perspective in your pocket.

Whatever you choose, make sure it’s something that feeds your soul. Because training takes a lot out of you—it demands time, energy, and heart. This in-between space? It’s your time to refill the tank
