Trust the Training: The Weird Week Before the Race

Trust the Training: The Weird Week Before the Race

It’s almost race day—and somehow, after months of running in the dark, sweating through long runs, and planning weekends around mileage… I feel completely unprepared.

Classic.

Taper week is weird. Your brain suddenly forgets all the hard work you’ve put in. Your legs feel phantom soreness in places you didn’t know had muscles. Every little thing feels like a sign: “Is that a twinge? Am I falling apart? Should I squeeze in one more long run just to be safe?” (Spoiler: you shouldn’t.)

But here’s what I’m reminding myself:

·  I’ve trained for this. Really trained.

·  Missing a run here or there didn’t ruin anything.

·  Nerves are normal—it means I care.

·  I’m stronger than I think, and more prepared than I feel.

This week isn’t about building fitness—it’s about building confidence. It’s about getting my mind right, trusting the process, and remembering why I started running in the first place: not just to hit a goal, but because I actually love it.

So here’s the plan:
Trust the training.
Adjust my mindset.
Show up ready.
And—most importantly—have fun.
